When using Evercoat, mix small amounts at a time as the the product catalyzes quickly. The two part filler was mixed in small batches and poured into each slot. I tracked down a quart kit at a Sherwin Williams automotive paint store. It is a quick drying automotive grade filler recommended by Dave Merriman of. The filler used was a new product (to me): Evercoat Metal Glaze. The dust was blown out to make sure the slot was clean. These sticks are a great way to get in the many nooks and crannies of the Nautilus - places a sanding block, or paper, can't go. This kept excess filler from fouling the hull's rivet detail.Ī course grit sanding stick was then used to scuff up the slot to promote adhesion of the filler. This product is low tack, yet forms a good seal. Work began with masking the slot with 3M painter's tape. Without the back strip, which didn't fit into the hull slot well at all, the slot needed to be filled. To use the thicker r/c planes, the static planes needed to be removed and the back strip cut out. A flat backing strip on the hull side behind the planes was molded into the part as well to correspond to a slot in the hull. The static side keel came with planes molded in. Aug./Sept.As the stock side keels supplied with the CR66 Nautilus kit were the parts created for the static version, a little further modification was in order. VVebsite(s) are scheduled for a (long overdue) Refit starting in mid. 2010,Īlso happen to be currently in the works. The "best" Nautilus model(s), like the one you were asking about back in Nov. then again, in my 'Opinion', & one shared by many Nautilus collectors & modelbuilders Worldwide, That are currently 'Available', & currently available now is them - nice models all / & even better when Bob Martin builds them! (hi Bob!) to build the "best" requires using the Best plans & without question - we have them! The McCamant 200' - Īnd to clarify, you did ask who 'has' the best models & I'm sure you meant 'who' makes Nautilus models While not as popular & relatively new / launched just 3 yrs. Total Immersion, Custom Replicas, Nautilus Drydock, etc.? I was told I about this "Best Nautilus" (search) post & it was suggested to me that I reply-post another- prospective Opinion, regarding "the best, most detailed, most accurate". I'd like opinions on who you believe has the best, most detailed, most accurate kit for static display. I'm always around if you'd like to chat, too! I do have a ton of photos showing quality differences and such if you need more convincing. There are others that will back me up on this. I spin in the Nautilus circles, so I like to think I know what Im talking about, but by all means do your own research and don't take what I say as gospel truth. Without getting into it too far, let's just say that there is a reason that he doesn't take a decent photo for his listings. I've had two of his customers get with me after their purchase to get the Brodeen kits. So, as to the buildups by the gentleman on eBay, you get what you pay for. Don't get me wrong, Lee is a great guy, but cool hull details aside, there is no comparison. The resin in the TI boat is soft and mushy, the detail parts are resin and not metal, and there will be voids and bubbles in the castings. I've built about four of Lee's boats now, and dozens of Scott's. Lee's boat is basically an unauthorized modified recast of Scott's boat, but even if that doesn't concern you, the quality and delivery times should. If you're after a 31" boat, you've got me, Lee with TI, or a Brodeen buildup from the gentleman on eBay. Scott and Jim use me to market almost all of their Nautilus products. The Custom Replicas boat is the same one as Scott's boat, which is the same one that i sell. Okay, so I actually run the Drydocks, so take this with a grain of salt if you'd like:
